There are two trekking destinations in India that you must not miss: Darjeeling and Sikkim.

Darjeeling

Darjeeling, the Queen of Hills crowned by majestic mountain Kanchanjunga (8586m.) is situated at an altitude of approximately 2150m. It had been the perfect sanctuary for British people living in India till 1947 because of its climate and pure environment.

This land that produces world-class tea is regarded as the melting pot of different cultures and traditions and is a perfect example of religious and cultural harmony. The tradition of plucking tea leaves is still preserved and the view of mountain maidens using their finger tips magically and artistically keeps the viewers spellbound. On the other hand a journey by Toy Train up and down the intricately carved road, gives the experience of Victorian Days. The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute that has preserved the history of almost all successful and unsuccessful expeditions to Mount Everest, has preserved the equipment used by Tenzing Norgey Sherpa who was the first man to set foot on the summit of Mt. Everest, the highest mountain in the World together with Sir. Edmund Hillary. A trip to Tiger Hill early in the morning rewards the visitors with the best view of Sunrise and the effect of the colors cast by the rising sun over the summits of Kanchanjunga, Mt. Everest and other numerous peaks.

Sikkim

Sikkim, under the laps of the Guardian Deity Kanchanjunga (8586m.) was incorporated into the Indian Union in the year 1775 prior to which she had been an independent Himalayan Kingdom. Though small but beautiful, This state is situated in the Eastern Himalayas sharing her borders with Tibet in the North, Bhutan in the East, Nepal in the West and Darjeeling in the South.

The topography of Sikkim ranges from 244 meters to 8586 meters. Within a matter of couple of hours one can feel the difference between sub-tropical heat of the lower river valleys and cold and pleasing atmosphere of the rugged mountain slopes. She offers her visitors very rare and splendid experience. Visitors can feel oneness with the mother nature here.

Religious faith forms the structural backbone of Sikkimese Society. Both Buddhists and Hindus co-exist in perfect harmony keeping the cultural heritage alive. Sikkim welcomes you to unfold the mystery that remains as rare experience to cherish throughout life.
